Interview: Fiona Dourif

Enclosure-2016-D
This week FDTC contributor Jay Kay had a chance to chat with actress Fiona Dourif about her role in Patrick Rea's new film Enclosure.

Fiona, Congratulations on Enclosure recently playing the UK FRIGHTFEST and the success of working with the director like Patrick Rea who's created so many amazing short films and his feature film work like NAILBITER really shows talent, versatility and the ability to manipulate isolated areas.

Jay Kay - Can you talk about working with him on ENCLOSURE and having a very complex character who is not only an artist but facing a really life-changing decision?

Fiona Dourif - There was a lot to think about, there's was a lot of issues and themes in the script and I was just hoping to kind of pick one thing and hoped my intention kind of carried is it through. I liked that it was very much a story about the kind of the personal relationships that are happening inside the tent as opposed to you know slasher and fear though that was like a great fun element of it it out and then I think it's become a creature! It was super fun!

JK - It's interesting because a lot really does happen in the tent. However, you look at the aspect of a marriage. In a marriage you deal with complacency and decisions together as well as dreams. Also, having a family is a source of drama with in the film. Can you give your thoughts as an actress about your role pertaining to those sorts of choices within a marriage and the effect on the character?

FD - For me it just had to do with getting in touch with something that I want. You know, I'm getting in touch with something that I want but I feel like is slipping away. That's what was happening for the two characters. I wanted and had a vision of what I want my life to look like and he didn't. I knew that we were gonna have to split we and this is going to be the last ditch effort to it to make it work.

JK - In ENCLOSURE, there's a lot of isolation within the tent that builds as everything is going on outside with the monsters and supernatural elements. Inside you already have the drama developing with your character’s husband Charles played Kevin Ryan and the hunter Sean played by Jake Busey. How was that developing the tension within the tent and creating it in a micro setting?

FD - The tent scenes were long and we were in a studio and it was hot. With horror movies with that amount of budget you have to shoot it really fast so and we were getting through it, like jamming through like six page scenes in a half day and I had no idea how it was going to turn out. It was really cool when I watched this and I am proud of this and it was really fun.

JK - Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk ENCLOSURE!

FD - Thank you for watching it!
