Galaxy of Terror, Forbidden World, and others coming to DVD

Hits: 723

Long overdue for the DVD treatment, both Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World will finally be released on the updated format on July 20th by the fine folks at Shout! Factory as part of the "Roger Corman Classics" series.

If its one thing we relish at From Dusk Till Con, its those lost classics of the VHS era - those cinematic gems that have been all but forgotten by most partakers of mainstream film and in many cases left to dwindle into obscurity much like the mom and pop video stores that harbored them. As younger up and coming horror fans, we recall spending many a youthful weekend afternoon curiously admiring the wonderful cover art of row upon row of the big box cassettes that lined the racks at our local rental joint, drawn in by the promise of monstrous creature features, unknown terrors from regions beyond, and general unapologetic schlock.

These days, many of us pay good dime to our friendly convention going bootlegger for the opportunity to relive and review these woefully unreleased favorites of our youth. Bearing that in mind, it brings me great pleasure to announce that two of these aforementioned lost classics of the VHS era will FINALLY and after long last get the proper DVD release they deserve: Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World (aka Mutant).

Both films were produced by the great Roger Corman and have been puzzlingly trapped in the VHS format since the 80's. Long overdue for the DVD treatment, both films will finally be released on the updated format on July 20th by the fine folks at Shout! Factory (who have also done an excellent job with releases of The Stepfather, Kingdom of the Spiders and a special collecters edition of Takashi Miike's, Audition).

But that's not all, Shout! Factory also has an extensive list of re-issues and special editions as part of their "Roger Corman Classics" line of films, due out over the next year. The most recent release schedule is listed below:
